In January–September, Ukrainian coke plants reduced imports of coking coals and coking coal concentrate by 10% to 7.19 million tons against the previous year, according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.
Shipments of Ukrainian coal to domestic steel companies in the first nine months amounted to 2.6 million tons, 3% up from January–September 2019.
In general, in the first three quarters of the current year, Ukrainian coke plants received a total of 9.77 million tons of coking coals, 7% down from the same period of the previous year.
The share of imported coals in the total supply was 73.6%, 2.6 pp down from January–September last year.
In January–September, 6.03 million tons of coke were supplied to Ukrainian coke plants, 12% down from the same period of the previous year. Almost all of the supplied coking coals, 5.94 million tons, were produced in Ukraine. This is 9% down from the first three quarters of the previous year. Coke imports dropped by 77% to 0.09 million tons in the nine months.
The share of imported coke in the total volume of supplies made up 1.5% against 5.5% in January–August 2019.
In 2019, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.92 million tons of coking coals. This is 4% down from the same period of 2018. The share of Ukrainian coals increased by a third to 3.5 million tons against 2018, whereas that of imported coals decreased by 12% to 10.43 million tons.
