Ukraine’s imports of coking coals fell 4.5% in 2021

In 2021, Ukrainian coke plants decreased imports of coking coals and coal concentrate by 4.5% to 9.28 million tons against 2020, according to the updated statistics of Ukrmetallurgprom.

Last year’s shipments of Ukrainian coal to domestic steel companies amounted to 3.65 million tons, 0.6% up from 2020.

In general, Ukrainian coke plants received 12.93 million tons of coking coal in 2020, 3.1% down from 2020.

The share of imported coals in the total supply was 71.8%, 1 pp down from 2020.

In 2021, 8.4 million tons of coke was supplied to Ukrainian producers, 3% up from 2020. Almost all of the supplied coking coals, 7.838 million tons, were produced in Ukraine. This is 2.4% down from 2020. In the same period, Ukraine imported 0.582 million tons of coke.

The share of imported coke in the total supply was 5.88%, 5.08 pp up from 2020.

In 2020, Ukrainian coke plants received 13.29 million tons of coking coals, 3.5% up from 2019. Coke imports fell by 61.4%.
