Ukraine retained its position in the world’s ranking of the steel producers

Ukraine retained its 13th position in the ranking of top 64 largest steel producing countries in 2019. Ukrainian steelmakers cut steel production by 1.2% to 20.8 million tons compared to the previous year, according to the recent updates of the World Steel Association.

The global steel output in 2019 grew by 3.4% to 1.86 billion tons compared to the previous year.

China increased steel production by 8.3% to 996.3 million tons, and India by 1.8% to 111.2 million tons. Japan cut outputs by 4.8% to 99.3 million tons, and South Korea by 1.4% to 71.4 million tons.

In 2019, the U.S. increased steel production by 1.5% to 87.9 million tons. Brazil reduced production by 9% to 32.2 million tons, and Turkey by 9.6% to 33.7 million tons.

As reported earlier, in 2018, the global steel output grew by 4.6% compared to 2017. In 2018, Ukraine cut steel production by 1.1% to 21.1 million tons.
