Ukraine reduced the coke production by 41% in January-April

In January-April 2022, Ukrainian coke plants reduced the production of metallurgical coke by 41.4% compared to the same period in 2021, to 1.905 million tons, Interfax-Ukraine reported citing data from Anatoly Starovoit, Ukrkoks association of coking enterprises CEO.

In April, coke production increased by 35.7% compared to March, to 243 thousand tons. Yuzhkoks, Kametstal, DMZ, Zaporizhkoks and coke production at ArmelorMittal Kryvyi Rih are currently working. The largest coke chemical plant, Avdiivka Coke Plant, is idle.

According to the results of January-April, 1.87 million tons of coal concentrate were supplied to domestic coke plants. Of these, 642.7 thousand tons of Ukrainian production, 616.9 thousand tons imported from the Russian Federation, 65.4 thousand tons – from Kazakhstan, 29.1 thousand tons – from Poland, 380.3 thousand tons – from the USA.

Earlier GMK Center reported that at the end of 2021, Ukrainian coke plants reduced coke production by 1.3% compared to 2020, to 9.54 million tons. In December, coke production decreased by 4% compared to December 2020, to 812 thousand t.
