Ukraine reduced steel production by 7 times in April

In April 2022, Ukraine reduced steel production by 7.4 times compared to April 2021, to 250 thousand tons, Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the World Steel Association reported.

Ukraine downed to 36th place in the global ranking of steelmakers, while in April 2021 the country ranked 13th.

Global steelmaking in April 2022 decreased by 5.1% compared to April 2021, to 162.7 billion tons. The top three producing countries, according to World Steel, included:

  • China – 92.8 million tons (-5.2% compared to April 2021);
  • India – 10.1 million tons (+ 6.2%);
  • Japan – 7.5 million tons (-4.4%).

Earlier GMK Center reported that in 2021 global steel production increased by 3.7% compared to 2020, to 1.95 billion tons. Ukraine has increased production by 3.6% over the year, up to 21.4 million tons. The country ranked 14th in the global ranking of 64 steel-producing countries.
