Ukraine reduced ferroalloys production by 21% in January–August

In January–August 2020, Ukrainian ferroalloy producers cut production by 20.9% to 544.2 thousand tons compared to the same period of the previous year, according to Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the data of the Ukrainian Association of Producers of Ferroalloys and Other Electrometallurgical Products (UkrFA).

Over the eight months, Nikopol and Zaporizhzhia ferroalloy plants (NFP, ZFP) cut silicomanganese production by 27% to 411.7 thousand tons compared to January–August 2019.

NFP, ZFP and Kramatorsk ferroalloy plant (KFP) increased ferromanganese production by 65.3% to 90.63 thousand tons, against January–August 2019. In the first eight months of 2020, KFP produced 34.09 thousand tons (no production data for January–August 2019 are available). The plant was idle in July–August due to a suspension of the blast furnace.

Ferrosilicon production dropped by 23.2% to 40.05 thousand tons against January–August 2019, while production of metal manganese fell by 60.5% to 1.81 thousand tons.

Pokrov Mining and Processing Plant and Marganets Mining and Processing Plant (Pokrov GOK and Marganets GOK) raised manganese concentrate production by 9.5% to 1.166 million tons y-o-y. Marganets GOK produced 368.01 thousand tons of concentrate (6.5% up to January–August 2019), Pokrov GOK 798.37 thousand tons (+10.9%).

In 2019, Ukrainian ferroalloy companies ramped up production of ferroalloys by 0.4% to 1.018 million tons against 2018.
