Ukraine increased pipe production by 22% in 8M

In January–August 2021, Ukrainian pipe companies ramped up pipe production by 22% to 655.1 thousand tons y-o-y, according to Interfax-Ukraine citing the updated statistics of Ukrtruboprom.

In July, Ukraine produced 90.8 thousand tons of pipes.

In 8M, Ukrtruboprom member companies increased pipe production by 26% to 442.5 thousand tons y-o-y. In August 2021, they ramped up production by 54.9% to 70 thousand tons against August last year.

“A favorable situation in foreign markets continues to have positive effects on Ukraine’s pipe industry. This enables Ukrtruboprom companies to increase production of seamless pipes for the sixth month in a row,” says Georgiy Polsky, Director of Ukrtruboprom.

He notes that the demand for OCTG is high due to a rise in global prices for hydrocarbons. On the other hand, Ukrtruboprom records an increase in supply of premium pipe products. This indicates an increase in the share of complex orders in Ukraine’s pipe industry.

In January–August 2021, Interpipe companies produced:

  • Interpipe NMPP — 35.3 thousand tons (-30.8% against January–August 2020);
  • Interpipe Niko Tube — 355.2 thousand tons (+84.1%);
  • Interpipe NTRP — n/a.

In January–August, Dniprovskiy Pipe Works was idle. Centravis cut production by 2.4% to 12 thousand tons y-o-y. Production at Trubostal shrank by 27.3% to 1.4 thousand tons.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, citing its own sources, in April this year, Interpipe NTRP’s pipe-rolling assets have formally become part of Interpipe Niko Tube.

In 8M 2021, non-member companies of Ukrtruboprom showed the following results:

  • Ilyich Iron and Steel Works — 98.7 thousand tons (+2.7% against January–August 2020);
  • Kominmet — 113.9 thousand tons (+24.3%).

In 2020, Ukraine cut production of pipes by 16.3% to 854 thousand tons y-o-y.
