Ukraine increased pipe production by 15% in 5M

In January–May 2021, Ukraine’s major pipe companies increased production by 15% to 385 thousand tons, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The recent reports show that in 5M, Ukrtruboprom member companies increased pipe production by 11.8% to 249.5 thousand tons compared to the same period of the previous year. These data were provided to GMK Center by Ukrtruboprom’s press service.

In particular, the member companies’ production results were as follows:

  • Interpipe Niko Tube increased production by 46.1%;
  • Interpipe NMPP ramped up production of pipes by 21.3%, to 34.8 thousand tons compared to January–May 2020;
  • Centravis reduced production by 8.6% to 7.4 thousand tons;
  • Trubostal maintained production at the last year’s level (0.8 thousand tons);
  • Dniprovskiy Pipe Works was idle from January to May (it produced only 0.3 thousand tons of pipes in 5M 2020 and 11.9 thousand tons in 5M 2019).

It’s worth mentioning here that, according to Interfax-Ukraine, in April this year, Interpipe NTRP’s pipe-rolling production has formally become part of Interpipe Niko Tube. This, by the way, can explain Interpipe Niko Tube’s high statistical figures. Over the period from January to April, Interpipe NTRP increased pipe production by 13.4% to 59.2 thousand tons y-o-y, and Interpipe Niko Tube increased production by 3.9% to 99.8 thousand tons.

In 5M 2020, Interpipe NTRP produced 63.1 thousand tons of pipes, аnd Interpipe Niko Tube produced 124.1 thousand tons.

According to Interfax-Ukraine’s own data sources, member companies of Ukrtruboprom produced 135.5 thousand tons of pipes. In 5M 2021, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol increased pipe production by 10.8% to 64.5 thousand tons (14.3 thousand tons in May), and Kominmet increased production by 38.7% to 71 thousand tons (15.6 thousand tons).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2020, Ukraine’s pipes exports decreased by 22.8% to 473.1 thousand tons against 2019. Revenues from pipes exports dropped by 22% to $521.9 million.

In 2020, Ukraine cut production of pipes by 16.3% to 854 thousand tons against 2019.
