China is the key supplier of products
In January 2026, the long steel market in Ukraine showed significant growth in imports – by 551% compared to January 2025 and by 62.3% compared to the previous month, to 40.72 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
The main volumes of supplies are hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS 7213) – 20.35 thousand tons, while in January 2024, the volumes amounted to 0.03 thousand tons, and in December – 0.1 thousand tons. China supplied 20.33 thousand tons of products to the Ukrainian market.
It also imported 8.84 thousand tons of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214), which is 810.9% y/y and 2.3% m/m more. Turkey imported 8.15 thousand tons of products, China – 0.5 thousand tons.
Another 8.72 thousand tons of imports were accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 8.72 thousand tons (+162.7% y/y; -21.2% m/m). Turkey sent 5.75 thousand tons of products to Ukraine, and China sent 1.97 thousand tons.
Expenditures on imports of long products increased by 380% y/y and 17.6% m/m – to $33.03 million.
As reported by GMK Center, Ukraine increased its imports of long products by 58.6% year-on-year in 2024, to 272.61 thousand tons. The main volumes of supplies are accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 108.75 thousand tons, which is 41.8% more y-o-y. Turkey and China were suppliers of long rolled metal products to the Ukrainian market.
