Ukraine increased imports of long rolled products by 58.6% y/y in 2025

In 2025, the long steel products market in Ukraine showed significant growth in imports – by 58.6% compared to 2024, to 272.61 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

The main volumes of supplies are accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 108.75 thousand tons, which is 41.8% more year-on-year. Turkey supplied 83.7 thousand tons of products to the Ukrainian market, Poland – 10.91 thousand tons, and China – 8.03 thousand tons.

In addition, 75.72 thousand tons of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214) were imported, which is 62.8% more than last year. Turkey imported 61.12 thousand tons of products, Bulgaria – 6.53 thousand tons, and China – 5.74 thousand tons.

A small share of supplies is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS 7213) – 37.06 thousand tons (+188.7% y/y). China sent 36.88 thousand tons to Ukraine.

Turkey and China are the main suppliers of long rolled steel products to the Ukrainian market. Turkish supplies of these products to the Ukrainian market in 2024 are estimated at 108.87 thousand tons, which is more than 63% of total imports, while Chinese supplies are estimated at 9.08 thousand tons (5.3%).

In December 2025, 25.08 thousand tons of long rolled steel products were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 202% more than in December 2024 and 164% more than in the previous month.

Consumption of the main import items during the month was as follows:

  • angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 11.05 thousand tons (+336% y/y; +439% m/m);
  • other bars and rods of carbon steel, not worked, twisted (HS 7214) – 8.64 thousand tons (+226% y/y; +176% m/m);
  • other bars and rods of other alloy steels; hollow bars and rods for drilling of alloy or non-alloy steels (HS 7228) – 1.97 thousand tons (+38.4% y/y; +74.9% m/m).

Expenditures on imports of long products for 12 months increased by 66.3% y/y to $288.54 million. In December, the indicator increased by 162% y/y and 91.3% m/m to $28.09 million.

As reported by GMK Center, Ukraine increased its imports of long products by 12.1% compared to 2023, to 171.9 thousand tons, according to the results of 2024.

The main volumes of supplies were accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 76.69 thousand tons, which is 47.9% more year-on-year. 43.84 thousand tons of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214) were imported, which is 29.7% less than in 2023.
