Ukraine increased imports of long rolled products by 51% y/y in January-November

In January–November 2025, the long steel products market in Ukraine showed significant growth in imports, up 51.3% compared to the same period in 2024, to 247.52 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

The main volumes of supplies are accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS code 7216) – 97.7 thousand tons, which is 31.7% more year-on-year. Turkey supplied 75.34 thousand tons of such products to the Ukrainian market, Poland – 9.79 thousand tons, and China – 6.94 thousand tons.

It also imported 67.08 thousand tons of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS code 7214), which is 62.8% more than last year. Turkey imported 57.01 thousand tons of such products, Bulgaria – 5.89 thousand tons, and China – 1.99 thousand tons.

A small share of supplies is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS – 7213) – 36.95 thousand tons (+187.9% y/y). China sent 36.8 thousand tons to Ukraine.

Thus, Turkey and China are the main suppliers of long rolled metal products to the Ukrainian market. Turkish supplies of the relevant products to the Ukrainian market in 2024 are estimated at 108.87 thousand tons, which is more than 63% of the total volume of imports, and Chinese supplies are estimated at 9.08 thousand tons (5.3%).

In November 2025, 9.5 thousand tons of long rolled metal products were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 59% less than in November 2024 and 71.4% less than in the previous month.

Consumption of the main import items during the month was as follows:

  • angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS 7216) – 2.05 thousand tons (-78.7% y/y; -83.2% m/m);
  • other bars and rods of carbon steel, not machined, twisted (HS – 7214) – 3.13 thousand tons (-70% y/y; -54.7% m/m);
  • other bars and rods, angles, shapes and special profiles of corrosion-resistant steel (HS – 7222) – 1.15 thousand tons (+311% y/y; -7.5% m/m).

Expenditures on imports of long products for 11 months increased by 60% y-o-y – to $260.45 million. In November, the indicator fell by 30.7% y-o-y and by 50.5% m-o-m – to $14.7 million.

As reported by GMK Center, Ukraine increased its imports of long products by 12.1% year-on-year in 2024, to 171.9 thousand tons.

The main volumes of supplies were accounted for by angles, shapes, and special profiles (HS code 7216) – 76.69 thousand tons, which is 47.9% more y/y. In addition, 43.84 thousand tons of other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS code 7214) were imported, which is 29.7% less than in 2023.
