Ukraine increased exports of long rolled products by 61% y/y in 1H2025

In January-June 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased their exports of long rolled steel by 60.6% compared to the same period in 2024, to 411,950 tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

More than 38% of the total exports of long products are other bars and rods of carbon steel, not further worked, twisted (HS code 7214) – 157.74 thousand tons (+341.4 y/y). The bulk of the products are sent to Poland – 94.1 thousand tons. Another 49.4 thousand tons were exported to Moldova, and 4.65 thousand tons – to Lithuania.

During the period, Ukrainian manufacturers also exported 158.67 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS – 7213), which is 33.2% more y/y. 76.12 thousand tons were shipped to Romania, 43.05 thousand tons to Poland, and 13.43 thousand tons to Bulgaria.

Another 67.54 thousand tons (+4.8% year-on-year) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS – 7217). Key consumers include Poland (26.07 thousand tons), Germany (12.32 thousand tons), and the Czech Republic (8.29 thousand tons).

In Q2, shipments increased by 116% year-on-year and by 33.7% quarter-on-quarter – to 235.7 thousand tons.

In June 2025, exports of long products from Ukraine amounted to 101.1 thousand tons, which is 155.2% more than in June 2024 and 32.7% more than in the previous month. Shipments of other carbon steel bars and rods, without further processing, twisted amounted to 36.28 thousand tons (+311.6% y/y; +17.8% m/m), hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils – 49.24 thousand tons (+144.2% y/y; +72.6% m/m), and wire – 10.25 thousand tons (+22.8% y/y; -20% m/m).

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January-June increased by 44.2% y/y – to $286.4 million, and in June – increased by 142% y/y and 30.2% m/m – to $70.14 million.

In 2024, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled steel by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. More than 42% of the total volume of long rolled steel exports is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213) – 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y-o-y). Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in 2024 increased by 15.1% y-o-y – to $452.18 million.
