Ukraine increased exports of long rolled products by 43% y/y in January-May

In January-May 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased their exports of long rolled steel by 43.3% compared to the same period in 2024, to 310.85 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

More than 39% of the total exports of long products are other bars and rods of carbon steel, not further worked, twisted (HS code 7214) – 121.46 thousand tons (+351 y/y). The majority of the products were sent to Poland – 70.75 thousand tons. Another 42.77 thousand tons were exported to Moldova, and 4.54 thousand tons – to Lithuania.

During the period, Ukrainian manufacturers also exported 109.44 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS – 7213), which is 10.6% more than last year. 54.24 thousand tons were shipped to Romania, 29.58 thousand tons to Poland, and 11.01 thousand tons to Bulgaria.

Another 57.28 thousand tons (-2.1% year-on-year) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS – 7217). Among the key consumers were Poland – 22.82 thousand tons, Germany – 10.39 thousand tons, and the Czech Republic – 6.85 thousand tons.

In May 2025, exports of long products from Ukraine amounted to 76.18 thousand tons, up 150% compared to May 2024 and 30.4% compared to the previous month. Shipments of other carbon steel rods and bars, without further processing, and twisted products amounted to 30.8 thousand tons (+869% y/y; +20.7% m/m.), hot-rolled rods and bars made of carbon steel in coils – 28.52 thousand tons (+133% y/y; +48.9% m/m), and wire – 12.81 thousand tons (+50.6% y/y; +16.7% m/m).

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January-May increased by 27.4% y/y to $216.25 million, and in May – by 111.5% y/y and 26.7% m/m – to $53.86 million.

In 2024, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled steel by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. More than 42% of the total volume of long rolled steel exports is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213) – 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y-o-y). Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in 2024 increased by 15.1% y-o-y – to $452.18 million.
