Ukraine increased exports of long products by 45.3% y/y in January-September

According to the results of January-September 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of long rolled metal products by 45.3% compared to the same period in 2024, to 675.86 thousand tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

Other carbon steel bars and rods, not further worked, twisted (HS code 7214) accounted for 38% of total exports of long products, amounting to 257.48 thousand tons (+38.1% y-o-y). The bulk of the products were sent to Poland – 133.79 thousand tons. Another 63.1 thousand tons were exported to Moldova, and 6.29 thousand tons – to Lithuania.

During the period, Ukrainian manufacturers also exported 279.51 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS code 7213), which is 39.5% more than last year. Romania received 139.45 thousand tons, Poland – 70.31 thousand tons, and Bulgaria – 17.83 thousand tons.

Another 97.04 thousand tons (-5.5% y-o-y) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS code 7217). Key consumers include Poland (34.51 thousand tons), Germany (18.6 thousand tons), and the Czech Republic (12.09 thousand tons).

During the third quarter, exports of long products increased by 26.4% compared to the same period in 2024, and by 12% compared to the previous quarter, to 263.91 thousand tons.

In September, the figure was 99.81 thousand tons, which is 50.9% more than in September 2024 and 29.5% more than in the previous month. Shipments of other carbon steel bars and rods, without further processing, twisted amounted to 35.78 thousand tons (+45.6% y/y; +31.1% m/m), hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils – 51.05 thousand tons (+88.7% y/y; +49.9% m/m), and wire – 9.56 thousand tons (-23.5% y/y; -1.9% m/m).

Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January-September increased by 35.8% y/y – to $466.65 million, and in September – by 41.3% y/y and 20.5% m/m – to $65.41 million.

It should be noted that in 2024, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled metal products by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. More than 42% of the total volume of long product exports is accounted for by hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel, in coils (HS code 7213) – 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y/y). Foreign exchange earnings from long products exports in 2024 increased by 15.1% y/y – to $452.18 million.
