Ukraine in January-June produced 2.1 million tons of metallurgical coke

In January-June 2022, Ukrainian coking plants (UCP) reduced the production of metallurgical coke by 57.2% compared to the same period in 2021, to 2.107 million tons. Interfax-Ukraine informs about it with the reference to Anatoly Starovoit’s data, the CEO of the association of coke enterprises Ukrkoks.

In the first half of the year, the production of gross coke with 6% moisture amounted to 2.5 million tons. In June, 267 thousand tons of gross coke were produced, including 227 thousand tons of metallurgical coke.

It is specified that Southkoks, Kametstal, DMZ Kominmet, Zaporizhkoks and coke production at ArmelorMittal Kryvyi Rih are currently operating. The largest coke chemical plant, Avdiyivka Coke Plant, is idle.

According to the results of January-June, 2.62 million tons of coal concentrate were supplied to domestic UCP. This is 1.35 million tons of Ukrainian production, 622.9 thousand tons imported from the Russian Federation, 65.4 thousand tons from Kazakhstan, 29.1 thousand tons from Poland, 396.6 thousand tons from the USA.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2021 Ukrainian coking plants reduced coke production by 1.3% compared to 2020, to 9.54 million tons. In December, coke production decreased by 4% compared to December 2020, to 812 thousand tons.
