Ukraine imported 98.3 thousand tons of long rolled products in January-July

In January-July 2024, Ukraine increased the import of long rolled steel by 7.8% compared to the same period last year – to 98.3 thousand tons. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

The largest number of corners, shaped and special profiles (HS- 7216) was imported during the period – 42.56 thousand tons, which is 79.4% more compared to January-July 2023. The main supplier of the these products is Turkey – 32.42 thousand tons. Another 6.58 thousand tons were imported from Poland.

Also, Ukrainian consumers imported 24.02 thousand tons of rebar (HS 7214), which is 42.9% less y/y. Turkey shipped 17.84 thousand tons of rebar to the market of Ukraine, and China – 0.6 thousand tons.

Wire rod entered the top three most imported types of long rolled products – 9.95 thousand tons (+166.4% y/y). Almost the entire volume was delivered from Moldova – 9.66 thousand tons.

In July 2024, 19.7 thousand tons of long rolled products were sent to the Ukrainian market, which is 10.8% less compared to the previous month, but 20.1% more y/y. The import of rebar reached 6.57 thousand tons (+11% m/m; -23.1% y/y), wire rods – 1.04 thousand t (-81.7% m/m ; -22% y/y), corners – 7.71 thousand tons (+4.4% y/y; +95.8% y/y).

Import costs for 7 months are equal to the indicator of January-July 2023 – $97.1 thousand tons, in July they amounted to $17.93 thousand tons, which is 4.3% less m/m and 15.3% more y/y.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine increased its import of long rolled steel by 28% compared to 2022 – up to 167.13 thousand tons. Import costs for the year increased by 17.4% y/y – up to $174.61 million. Angles, shaped and special profiles made of non-alloy steel (HS 7216) were imported the most – 65.67 thousand tons for $56.84 million.
