Ukraine imported 164 thousand tons of long steel in January-November

In January-November 2024, Ukraine increased imports of long steel products by 12.9% year-on-year – to 163.59 thousand tons. This is evidenced by data from the State Customs Service.

Most of all, angles, shaped and special profiles (HS 7216) were imported during the period – 74.1 thousand tons, which is 55.5% more than in January-November 2023. Turkey is the main supplier of these products – 57.07 thousand tons. Another 10.94 thsd tonnes were imported from Poland.

Also, Ukrainian consumers imported 41.19 thousand tons of rebar (HS 7214), which is 32% less than in the previous year. Turkey shipped 33.73 thousand tons of rebar to the Ukrainian market, while China shipped 0.88 thousand tons.

Other rods and bars of other alloyed steels (HS 7228) were among the top three most imported long products, amounting to 13.28 thousand tons (-4.1% y/y). Key suppliers: Turkey – 4.91 thousand tons, and Germany – 2.6 thousand tons.

In November, 23.17 thousand tons of long products were supplied to the Ukrainian market, up 136.9% month-on-month and 128.8% y/y. Imports of rebar amounted to 10.46 thousand tons (+325% m/m; +424% y/y), angles – 9.64 thousand tons (+166.2% m/m; +54.4% y/y), other bars and rods of other alloy steels – 1.24 thousand tons (-12.9% m/m; +161.9% y/y).

Import costs for 11 months increased by 6.7% compared to January-November 2023 to $162.76 million, in November they amounted to $21.2 million, which is 60.1% more than in January and 103.5% more than in November.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine increased imports of long products by 28% compared to 2022, up to 167.13 thousand tons. Import costs increased by 17.4% y/y – to $174.61 million over the year. Most of all, the company imported angles, shapes and special profiles made of unalloyed steel (HS 7216) – 65.67 thousand tons for $56.84 million.
