Ukraine imported 130.6 thousand tons of long rolled products in January-September

In January-September 2024, Ukraine increased the import of long rolled steel by 12.3% compared to the same period last year – to 130.64 thousand tons. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

The largest number of corners, shaped and special profiles (HS 7216) was imported during the period – 60.9 thousand tons, which is 81.8% more compared to January-September 2023. The main supplier of the corresponding products is Turkey – 47.56 thousand tons. Another 8.4 thousand tons were imported from Poland.

Also, Ukrainian consumers imported 28.27 thousand tons of rebar (HS 7214), which is 44.2% less y/y. Turkey shipped 21.74 thousand tons of rebar to the Ukrainian market, and China – 0.634 thousand tons.

Wire rod (HS 7213) was among the top three most imported types of long rolled products – 12.57 thousand tons (+171.5% y/y). Almost the entire volume was delivered from Moldova – 9.66 thousand tons.

In September 2024, 13.87 thousand tons of long rolled products were sent to the Ukrainian market, which is 24.9% less compared to the previous month, and 13.6% y/y. The import of rebar reached 1.12 thousand tons (-42.1% m/m; -69.1% y/y), corners – 6.78 thousand t (-9.9% m/y m.; +8.9% y/y). Wire rod was not imported during the month.

Import costs for 9 months increased by 2.1% compared to January-September 2023 – to $128.32 million, in September they amounted to $14.14 million, which is 17.1% less month-on-month and 15.8% y/y.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukraine increased its import of long rolled steel by 28% compared to 2022 – up to 167.13 thousand tons. Import costs for the year increased by 17.4% y/y – up to $174.61 million. Angles, shaped and special profiles made of non-alloy steel (HS 7216) were imported the most – 65.67 thousand tons for $56.84 million.
