Ukraine has restored two railway sections on the border with Poland

Ukraine has resumed the movement of trains at two sections on the border with Poland – State border – Starzhava – Khyriv – Nižankovychy – State border (line 102) and Khyriv – Sambir. Government portal informs about it.

Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) repaired almost 70 km of tracks, renovated 10 bridges on these sections, in addition, station infrastructure in Khyrov, Nižankovychy and Starzhava was restored.

“Thanks to the completion of these projects, we will significantly increase the carrying capacity of our western border, in particular its key direction – the Polish one. These are additional opportunities for exporters, additional logistical routes for the transportation of international aid to Ukraine and acceleration of Ukraine’s practical integration into the European market,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine – Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.

According to him, the restoration of these two sections are not the only railway projects that have been released in the country in recent months. In 2022, the reconstruction and electrification of the Kovel – Izov – Derzhkordon section was completed.

“Transfer of traction on this section to electric now makes logistics between Ukraine and Poland much more efficient, and the number of pairs of trains to European countries per day may reach 14 in the future”, wrote Oleksandr Kubrakov on Facebook.

As part of the Open Border project, initiated by the presidents of Ukraine and Poland, the development of automobile border infrastructure continues. The checkpoint Nižankovychy – Malhovice was opened for the movement of empty trucks, the checkpoint Krakowec – Korčova was modernized and its capacity increased. In addition, they found an infrastructural solution to reduce queues at the Yagodin – Dorogusk point. As the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure noted, these steps made it possible to significantly increase the flow of cargo across the Ukrainian-Polish border.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukraine will continue in 2023 develop logistics on the border with the EU. It is about opening new checkpoints on the border with the European Union and increasing the capacity of existing ones. And also about the construction of roads, bridges and railways, which are of critical importance for Ukrainian exports.
