Ukraine exported 60 million tons of cargo via the sea corridor

Over the 11 months of operation of the Ukrainian sea corridor (since August 2023), it has transported 60 million tons of cargo. This is stated in the report of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

As noted, 40.6 million tons of this volume are grain cargoes. They were exported to 46 countries.

The USPA reported that the bulk carrier Manta Hacer with 25.2 thousand tons of Ukrainian humanitarian wheat is moving through the Ukrainian corridor to Yemen. This is another vessel chartered by the UN World Food Program.

In June 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 1.2 million tons of iron ore, up from 0.2 million tons in June 2023. The total cargo turnover of Ukrainian seaports for the month reached 7 million tons, which is 1.5 times higher than in the same period last year. Grain was the leading cargo transshipment type, with 4.4 million tons compared to 3.4 million tons a year earlier.

In June, cargo turnover through the Ukrainian sea corridor amounted to 5.6 million tons.

In total, in 6 months of 2024, Ukrainian ports handled 53 million tons (31.2 million tons in 2023), handling 6,046 thousand vessels.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian ports increased cargo transshipment by 5% y/y – to 62 million tons, with iron ore transshipment accounting for 5.9% of the total cargo turnover (1.9 million tons). This can be considered the beginning of the industry’s recovery after the difficult year of 2022, when port cargo turnover fell by 2.6 times compared to pre-war 2021.
