Ukraine exported 55 million tons of cargo via the sea corridor

Over the 10 months of the Ukrainian sea corridor’s operation (since August 2023), it has transported a record 55 million tons of cargo. This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development (Ministry of Reconstruction).

«55 million tons of cargo is the cargo turnover of the ports of Greater Odesa for 10 months of the Ukrainian corridor’s operation,» the ministry said.

During this period, 1954 vessels were loaded.

The overwhelming majority of cargo in this period was agricultural products – 37.4 million tons, which were exported to 45 countries.

As of June 27 this year, 68 vessels exporting almost 2 million tons of cargo were waiting to approach the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.

The steady increase in traffic volumes demonstrates the effectiveness of the sea corridor, which Ukraine opened ten months ago on its own, solely with the assistance of the Joint Defense Forces.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in May 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 1.5 million tons of iron ore, compared to 241 thousand tons in May 2023. In total, 8.26 million tons of cargo were handled during the month, which is almost twice as much as in the same period last year. Grain accounts for the largest volume of cargo turnover, followed by iron ore.

In May 2024, cargo turnover through the Ukrainian sea corridor amounted to 6.7 million tons, of which 4.5 million tons were products of Ukrainian farmers.
