Ukraine exported 433.1 thousand tons of flat products in January-March

In January-March 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased exports of flat products by 3.3% compared to the same period in 2024, to 433.1 thousand tons. The figure was up 27.9% quarter-on-quarter. This is according to GMK Center’s calculations based on the State Customs Service data.

Hot-rolled flat products (HS 7208) accounted for more than 80% of exports, up 3.1% y/y. The main consumers of the products during the year were Poland – 124.8 thousand tons, Bulgaria – 98.72 thousand tons, and Italy – 32.71 thousand tons.

Cold-rolled flat products accounted for another 13.5% of shipments, or 58.45 thousand tons (+13.5% y/y). The key consumer of these products is Poland – 17.37 thousand tons. Another 8.97 thousand tons were exported to Bulgaria and 9.96 thousand tons to Italy.

In addition, 16.51 thousand tons of coated flat products were exported in the last quarter, up 3.8% y/y. The company shipped 10 thousand tons of these products to Poland, 4.51 thousand tons to Romania and 0.4 thousand tons to the Czech Republic.

In March, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 142.73 thousand tons of flat products, down 3.7% y/y but up 5.8% m/m. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products amounted to 119.41 thousand tons (-5.8% y/y, +9.9% m/m), flat steel products – 16.65 thousand tons (-6.8% y/y, -24.3% m/m), and coated flat products – 6.54 thousand tons (+53.1% y/y, +56.1% m/m).

Revenues from flat products exports in January-March 2025 decreased by 8.1% y/y – to $231.87 million, and in March – by 17.9% y/y and increased by 6.9% m/m – to $77.89 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024, Ukraine increased exports of flat products by 36.1% compared to 2023, to 1.63 million tons. Hot-rolled flat products accounted for more than 80% of shipments – 1.363 million tons (+44.7% yoy). Cold-rolled flat products accounted for another 12%, or 201.71 thousand tons (+0.7% yoy).
