Ukraine exported 40 million tons of cargo via the sea corridor

Since August 2023, Ukraine has exported almost 40 million tons of cargo, including 26 million tons of grain, through the sea corridor created by the Navy. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov at the US-Ukraine Partnership Forum 2024, the Ministry of Recovery said on Facebook.

In January-March 2024, the ports of the Danube cluster handled more than 5.6 million tons of cargo, including 4 million tons for export, which is 16% less than in the same period last year.

Kubrakov also said that Ukraine is creating new and expanding existing land border crossings along the western border.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery, the country feels the support of the US Government and the American private sector. He reminded that the US Export-Import Bank has preliminarily approved a $156.6 million loan for the purchase of 40 diesel locomotives for Ukrainian Railways.

Kubrakov emphasized that Ukraine seeks to partner with American businesses to ensure Ukraine’s economic stability.

«We are working to ensure that Ukrainian exports get to global markets, and that Ukraine not only retains but also creates new jobs. All of these are key components of our economic resilience in the face of growing Russian military aggression,» the Vice Prime Minister said.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrainian ports of the Danube cluster handled a record 29 million tons of cargo in 2023, including 1.7 million tons of ore. This is a 2-fold increase compared to the previous year and a 6-fold increase by 2021. The number of vessels handled last year doubled to 13.04 thousand units.
