The main share of products was shipped to Bulgaria, Turkey and Egypt
In January-October 2024, Ukrainian steelmakers increased exports of semi-finished steel products by 61.8% compared to the same period in 2023, to 1.67 million tons. This is evidenced by data from the State Customs Service.
In October, exports of Ukrainian semi-finished products amounted to 144.13 thousand tons, down 35.7% month-on-month and 30.9% yoy. The average monthly exports in 2024 amounted to 167.4 thsd tonnes compared to 103.46 thsd tonnes in January-October 2023. At the same time, the October figure is the lowest since June this year.
The main export destinations for semi-finished steel products from Ukraine are Bulgaria – 512.87 thousand tons over 10 months and 50.56 thousand tons in October (+48.7% m/m), Egypt – 345.85 thousand tons and 20.42 thousand tons (-81.6% m/m), respectively, Turkey – 179.37 thousand tons and 20.81 thousand tons (-45.9% m/m), and Poland – 117.92 thousand tons (did not import in October).
Revenues from exports of semi-finished products in January-October 2024 increased by 56.3% y/y – to $827.95 mln, and in October – fell by 36.7% m/m and increased by 31.1% y/y – to $69.32 mln.
In 2023, Ukraine reduced exports of semi-finished products by 36.7% compared to 2022, to 1.203 million tons. Compared to the pre-war year 2021, shipments of semi-finished products abroad decreased by 82.2%, or 5.57 million tons. Revenues of domestic enterprises from the export of semi-finished products last year decreased by 48.9% compared to 2022, to $608.52 million.
In 2023, the largest consumers of Ukrainian semi-finished products were Bulgaria – 36.7%, Poland – 23%, and Italy – 9.6%.
