Ukraine cut pipe production by a third in January–August

In January–August 2020, Ukrainian pipe companies reduced pipe production by 27% to 539.1 thousand tons compared to the same period a year earlier, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

Member companies of Ukrtruboprom cut production of pipes by 34.7% to 351.4 thousand tons in eight months.

In August, Ukraine produced 69.3 thousand tons of pipes, of which 45.5 thousand tons were made by Ukrtruboprom member companies.

In eight months, production at Interpipe companies declined as follows:

  • Interpipe NTRP — by 43.9% to 95.1 thousand tons;
  • Interpipe NMPP — by 33.3% to 51 thousand tons;
  • Interpipe Niko Tube — by 26.6% to 191.5 thousand tons.

In January–August, Dniprovskiy Pipe Works produced 0.3 thousand tons of pipes against 15.7 thousand tons in the same period of the previous year. Centravis cut production by 10.9% to 12.3 thousand tons. Trubostal’s output shrank by 33.3% to 1.2 thousand tons of pipes.

In eight months, non-member companies of Ukrtruboprom showed the following results:

  • Ilyich Iron and Steel Works — 96.1 thousand tons (-5.6% against the same period of 2019);
  • Kominmet — 91.6 thousand tons (-6.1%).

As GMK Center reported earlier, exports of pipes from Ukraine in January–August dropped by 29.1% to 314.1 thousand tons compared to the same period of the previous year. In monetary terms, it shrank by 25.1% to $357.4 million.

In 2019, Ukraine curtailed pipe production by 9.1% to 1.002 million tons compared to 2018.
