Ukraine climbed to the 9th place in WorldSteel ranking of steel exporters

Ukraine climbed to the 9th place in the World Steel ranking of steel exporters for 2020. The country exported 15.2 million tons of steel, having climbed one place up against the previous year, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

The top three steel exporters, according to World Steel, are:

  • China — 51.4 million tons;
  • Russia — 31.5 million tons;
  • Japan — 29.8 million tons.

Ukraine retained the fourth place among net exporters of steel in 2020, with 13.9 million tons. The top three steel exporters, according to World Steel, are:

  • Russia — 26.4 million tons;
  • Japan — 24.8 million tons;
  • South Korea — 16.1 million tons.

As reported earlier, in 2020, the global steel production declined by 0.9% y-o-y to 1.864 billion tons. In the same year, Ukraine cut steel production by 1.1% to 20.6 million tons and was ranked 11th among top 64 steel producing countries in the world.
