Turkey’s steel industry is stepping up efforts to strengthen its position in the Italian market. In 2025, exports to Italy should reach $1 billion – this ambitious goal was announced by representatives of the sector during the international exhibition Made in Steel 2025, which took place last week in Milan, Kallanish reports.
In the first four months of the year, Turkish steel exports grew by 3.5% year-on-year, from $5.15 billion to $5.33 billion. Italy was one of the two main destinations, showing a 25% increase to $374 million. This confirms the growing importance of the Italian market for Turkish steel producers.
According to Yalçın Ertan, Vice President of the Aegean Exporters Association and President of the Aegean Ferrous and Nonferrous Metal Exporters Association (EDDMİB), 38 Turkish companies took part in the exhibition, which was the largest international delegation at the event, even exceeding the representation of China and Germany.
According to him, Turkey has every reason to move confidently towards the overall target of $2.2 billion in steel exports in 2025, continuing to demonstrate its production capacities on the global stage.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Turkey increased steel exports by 27.6% y/y – to 13.4 million tons in 2024. Steel imports amounted to 17.4 million tons in 2024 (+1.7% y/y). Consumption of rolled steel in the country last year increased by only 0.6% year-on-year to 38.3 million tons.
