Kardemir Çelik
Тurkish company Kardemir Çelik, headquartered in İzmir, is investing $30 million in a rolling mill that will produce large-size sections. This was reported by Ekonomi Gazetesi.
This move aims to broaden the company’s product range and expand into new markets.
«The growing use of steel structures worldwide is increasing the demand for large sections. Therefore, at Kardemir Çelik, in addition to producing 200 mm UPN, IPN, and IPE sections on our large section line, we also plan to manufacture products over 200 mm by the end of 2025. Furthermore, we will produce special sections for solar power plants, the mining industry, and shipbuilding», noted Ozlem Bakirel, member of the Board of Directors of Kardemir Çelik.
Commissioning of the rolling mill is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. The company expects an overall revenue increase of around 10% thanks to the new investments, while high-margin products are projected to make up to 25% of the profits.
Last year Kardemir Çelik produced 900,000 t of billets, of which 500,000 t were rolled into sections, and the rest into rebar and wire rod. By 2026, the company intends to produce 1.2 million t of billets and reach a total rolling production capacity of 2.5 million t.
Recall that during January–June 2025, Turkey increased its exports of metal products by 18.6% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 7.7 million t. In value terms, the figure amounted to $5.2 billion (+8.8% y/y).
