Turkish Erdemir increased steel production by 32% y/y in 9 months

The Turkish steel producer Erdemir increased its steel production by 32% year-on-year – to 6.6 million tons in 9 months of the current year. This is stated in the company’s report.

Steel production at the plant in Eregla in thisperiod amounted to 2.6 million tons (+29% y/y), at the plant in Iskenderun – 4 million tons (+35% y/y).

In January-September of this year, the company increased the production of flat rolled products by 6.8% year-on-year – to 5.2 million tons, and graded products by 73% – to 727,000 tons.

The company’s total sales of flat products for the nine months of 2024 reached 5.2 million tons. Of these, 4 million tons were sold on the domestic market, which is 8% less than in the same period last year. The volume of sales of rolled products amounted to 707,000 tons, of which 693,000 tons were sold on the domestic market.

In January-September, the group exported almost 1.2 million tons of rolled products, which was 20% of the total sales volume. In particular, flat rolled products were exported to 31 countries.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Erdemir continues to invest in the green transition. By 2030, the OYAK Group will invest $3.2 billion in transformation. OYAK companies aim to reduce carbon emissions per ton of products by 25% by the end of 2030 and by 40% – by 2040, as well as achieve zero emissions in 2050 within the framework of the corresponding “road” map.

Also, Erdemir was declared a Zonguldak special industrial zone. This decision will contribute to the achievement of the company’s environmental goals, as well as accelerate the increase in employment, investment and capacity expansion of the steel producer.
