Turkey’s Çolakoğlu Metalurji plans to export over 3 million tons of steel in 2025

Turkish steel producer Çolakoğlu Metalurji aims to export more than 3 million tons of metal products this year, according to Ekonomim.

According to Gökhan Erdem, sales and marketing director at Çolakoğlu Metalurji, the company’s two plants in the province of Kocaeli have an annual production capacity of 4.5 million tons of hot-rolled coil and 1 million tons of construction steel.

Çolakoğlu Metalurji currently exports its products to more than 150 countries. According to Erdem, in 2024 and 2025, the company strengthened its global presence by expanding its export activities in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America.

The company has committed to reducing its emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Erdem called this commitment not only an environmental responsibility but also a strategic vision that enhances Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s competitiveness.

“By integrating our vision of green steel and ambitious zero-emission goals with digitalization, we aim to be one of the pioneers of transformation in the Turkish steel industry,” he said.

Turkey has advantages in the decarbonization process thanks to the widespread use of electric arc furnace steel production in the country. For Çolakoğlu, this advantage is also enhanced by the use of renewable energy and technologies that reduce carbon emissions.

Gökhan Erdem also noted that the country’s metallurgical sector faced a decline in demand in 2025 after an unstable 2024.

«The fact that China and other Far East countries targeted Turkey as a target market in 2024 created unfair pressure on domestic producers. This led to an imbalance between supply and demand and price volatility in the domestic market. 2025 saw a similar trend,» he explained.

Despite uncertainty and declining demand in global markets, the Turkish steel sector has remained resilient, says Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s sales and marketing director. Building on the experience of 2024, Turkish metallurgists have increased the efficiency of their production processes. Throughout 2025, the sector saw accelerated innovation investments, green transformation projects, and digitalization efforts.

It should be noted that Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding, believes that Turkey can increase the sector’s competitiveness through strategic protective measures.
