Turkey increased steel production by 3.3% y/y in 2025

In 2025, Turkish steel enterprises increased steel production by 3.3% compared to 2024, to 38.12 million tons. This is evidenced by data from the World Steel Association.

Pig iron production in the country decreased by 4.6% year-on-year – to 9.71 million tons last year.

In December, Turkey’s steel industry increased steel production by 6.6% compared to the previous month and by 18.5% compared to December 2024, to 3.53 million tons. Pig iron production for the month increased by 6.4% month-on-month and 24.2% year-on-year – to 928,000 tons.

Average monthly steel production in 2025 was 3.18 million tons, compared to 3.07 million tons in 2024, 2.81 million tons in 2023, and 2.93 million tons in 2022. Pig iron output was 809,580 tons in 2025, 848,830 tons in 2024, and 724,200 tons in 2023.

In 2024, Turkish steelmakers increased steel production by 9.4% compared to 2023, to 36.89 million tons. Pig iron production in the country grew by 17.2% year-on-year last year, to 10.19 million tons.

Turkey’s steel industry achieved growth last year after two years of stagnation. This was facilitated by the active development of infrastructure projects, in particular the restoration of regions after the earthquake, export growth amid changes in global markets, and the modernization of steel capacities.

Despite the positive dynamics, global challenges such as unstable demand and competition from Asian producers remain relevant and are affecting the figures for the beginning of the year.

WorldSteel expects steel demand in Turkey to decline by 1.7% this year compared to 2024, to 35.5 million tons.
