Turkey increased steel exports by 12.1% y/y in January-September

In January-September 2025, Turkey increased its exports of steel products by 12.1% year-on-year to 11.4 million tons. In value terms, it grew by 3.8% year-on-year to $7.7 billion over nine months, according to the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD).

At the end of September, steel product exports from the country grew by 7.6% year-on-year to 1.4 million tons. However, its value for the period fell by 0.2% y/y – to $900.5 million.

Steel imports to the country in the first nine months of 2025 increased by 17.2% y/y – to 14.2 million tons. Import costs during this period amounted to $9.9 billion (+3.6% y/y). In September, the figure rose by 12.1% year-on-year – to 1.5 million tons.

The export-to-import coverage ratio in January-September was 78%.

In September, domestic consumption of steel products increased by 9.6% compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 3.1 million tons. Over nine months, it reached 28.9 million tons (+3.9% y/y).

Association of Cold-Rolled, Galvanized, and Painted Flat Steel Producers of Turkey (SOGAD) appealed to the Ministry of Trade to introduce temporary anti-dumping measures on imports of these products from China and South Korea. The reason was a wave of imports of these goods after the start of the anti-dumping investigation in December 2024. According to the association, importers are exploiting loopholes in the current regulations, putting serious pressure on local producers through unfair competition.
