Turkey increased pig iron imports from Ukraine by 87% in January-February

In January-February 2022, Turkish steel plants increased pig iron imports from Ukraine by 87.1% compared to the same period in 2021 – up to 71.5 thousand tons, Steel Orbis reported.

In February, Ukraine exported 53.02 thousand tons of pig iron to Turkey, which is 3.6 times higher than in February 2021.

Totally, Turkish companies in January-February increased imports of pig iron by 2.06 times – up to 238.6 thousand tons.

Russia is the biggest supplier of pig iron to Turkey. It provided 40% of all pig iron deliveries to the country. In January-February, Turkish plants imported 95.7 thousand tons of pig iron from Russia. This is 3.6 times more than in 2021.

The second place holds Ukraine – its share is 30% of total pig iron supplies to Turkey.

Earlier GMK Center reported, that in 2021 Turkey increased imports of pig iron from Ukraine by 8,8% compared to 2020 – up to 295.5 thousand tons. Deliveries from Ukraine were 25% of total iron supplies.

Turkey ranks seventh in the world in terms of steel production. According to World Steel, the country in 2021 increased steel production by 13% compared to 2020 – up to 40.4 million tons.
