Turkey increased imports of HRC from Ukraine 2.2 times in 7M

In January–July 2021, Turkey increased imports of Ukrainian-made HRC 2.2 times to 655.4 thousand tons y-o-y, according to Steel Orbis citing the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

In July 2021, Turkey increased imports of HRC from Ukraine thrice to 43.6 thousand tons against July last year.

In 7M, Ukrainian steel products accounted for 23% of Turkey’s total imports in the same period.

In January–July in total, Turkish steel producers increased imports of steel products by 44.4% to 2.88 million tons.

Turkey’s key HRC import source was Russia, accounting for 44% of Turkey’s total imports. In January–July this year, Turkish steel producers consumed 1.3 million tons of Russia-made steel products, 91% up from January–July 2020.

Turkey is the seventh largest steel producer in the world in terms of volumes. According to the Turkish Steel Producers Association, in 2020, the country increased steel production by 6% to 35.8 million tons y-o-y.
