In January–February 2026, Turkey reduced its imports of semi-finished steel products from Ukraine by 2.6% to 49,230 metric tons. This was reported by SteelOrbis, citing preliminary data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
In February, shipments of Ukrainian semi-finished products to the Turkish market totaled 2,670 metric tons, compared to 29,910 metric tons in February 2025.
Overall, in the first two months of the year, Turkey increased its imports of semi-finished steel products by 24.8% year-on-year to 724,200 tons, with the value rising by 17.4% year-on-year – to $356.4 million.
The largest supplier of this product to the country in January–February was Russia, with a volume of over 236,000 tons (+102.8% year-on-year); its share in the import structure for the period was 32.6%. Next came China (175,700 tons, +71.6% year-on-year) and the UAE (60,600 tons; no shipments were made during the same period in 2025).
As a reminder, in January-February, Turkey reduced its imports of metal products by 10.8% year-on-year – to 2.7 million tons; the value of these imports amounted to $1.9 billion (-11.7% year-on-year). In February alone, this figure rose by 9% year-on-year – to 1.5 million tons.
As reported by GMK Center, Turkish steelmakers increased steel production by 3.3% year-on-year last year, to 38.12 million tons. Pig iron production in the country fell by 4.6% year-on-year, to 9.71 million tons.
