Thyssenkrupp signs agreement to supply processed scrap from TSR Group

German steel producer Thyssenkrupp Steel has announced the signing of a long-term supply agreement with German recycled raw materials supplier TSR Group.

TSR will supply its innovative recycled product TSR40, which the company has been producing on an industrial scale at its recycling plant in Duisburg since 2023 and, since 2024, also in Hamburg and Amsterdam.

TSR40 is made exclusively from recycled materials such as end-of-life vehicles or mixed scrap. The product will be used in the production of bluemint recycled steel in Thyssenkrupp’s blast furnaces, contributing to the decarbonization and circular economy goals of both parties.

As noted, Thyssenkrupp Steel’s bluemint flat steel is suitable for all conventional applications, except for reduced specific CO2 emissions. The material properties are no different from those of conventionally produced steel.

«The recycled TSR40 product is an important part of our decarbonization strategy. Thanks to TSR40, we are already offering our customers the opportunity to significantly reduce their Scope 3 emissions. At the same time, it allows us to meet growing customer demand for an increase in the proportion of recycled raw materials in our products,» said Philip Konze, CFO of Thyssenkrupp Steel.

Hyundai Steel has announced an investment program worth 170 billion won ($116 million) through 2032 to secure high-quality scrap and develop low-carbon raw material production capabilities.
