The UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has proposed imposing new anti-dumping measures on imports of hot-rolled steel sheets from South Korea. This is stated in a government announcement.
Based on its preliminary findings, the TRA recommended imposing anti-dumping measures on sheets with a width of 600–2,500 mm. At the same time, the TRA believes that applying these measures to the full volume of such products wider than 600 mm would likely harm certain sectors in the UK, such as renewable energy, shipbuilding, and defense, which are partially dependent on these imports.
If the new anti-dumping measure applies only to sheets less than 2,500 mm wide, the duty rate will range from 7.04% to 22.27%. If applied to the entire range of products under investigation, the rates will range from 5.98% to 24.28%.
The TRA is accepting comments until May 21, after which it will review any additional evidence submitted before making a final recommendation to the Minister for Business and Trade.
As a reminder, in March of this year, the UK government announced a new strategy to protect the steel industry. Starting July 1, 2026, steel import quotas will be reduced by 60% compared to current agreements, and tariffs on imports exceeding the quota will increase from 25% to 50%. The new strategy will be aligned with investments to transition to green steel.
