Over 20,000 tons of steel billets have already been processed, and the next shipment is on its way

The state-owned enterprise Chornomorsk Sea Trade Port has resumed transshipment of imported steel billets for the first time in a decade. In July, over 20,000 tons of this strategic cargo were already transshipped through the port. A new shipment is expected to arrive in the near future, for which the enterprise is actively preparing, according to a press release.

This resumption is a landmark event for the Ukrainian port and metallurgical industries, as steel billets are used as raw materials for the country’s leading industrial enterprises. Its stable supply helps to preserve production capacity, provides jobs, fills the budget, and supports the economy in wartime.

«In recent years, the port has specialized mainly in the transshipment of grain cargoes. During the war, the issue of cargo flow diversification has become one of the key issues for the preservation and development of the enterprise. The resumption of work with metal cargoes is the result of the systematic work of the port team, which has implemented a number of organizational, technical, and logistical changes,» said Vyacheslav Bezruk, director of the Chornomorsk Sea Trade Port.

The return of metal products to the port’s facilities has not only expanded the range of cargo handled but also strengthened the enterprise’s resilience in wartime. This strategic decision increases the stability of the port’s operations, supports national industry, and helps attract additional financial resources.

The port of Chornomorsk announces plans to further expand cooperation with various sectors of the economy in order to remain a reliable partner for Ukrainian business and the state.

During the operation of the Ukrainian corridor, almost 5,000 ships were handled and over 130 million tons of cargo were transshipped. More than 80 million tons of the total volume is grain.

In 2024, Ukrainian ports handled 18.5 million tons of ore cargo. Total cargo turnover last year reached a record 97.2 million tons, compared to 62 million tons in 2023, with exports amounting to 88.1 million tons.
