According to the statistics provided by the State Statistics Service, a 0.6% decrease in the number of workers, down to 191.7 thousand people, of companies producing steel and finished metal products was recorded in September compared to August.
Meanwhile, the number of people employed in mining and quarrying decreased by 0.4% to 193.8 thousand.
The largest reduction in the number of workers was recorded in production of coke and refined petroleum products — by 2.7% down to 17.5 thousand people.
For comparison, employment in the sector in general decreased by 0.3% to 1.84 million, and in Ukraine in general — down to 7.37 million.
As reported earlier, the number of full-time workers in the steel, pipe, coke and ore mining industries reached 123.8 thousand in August 2019.
These statistics were provided to GMK Center by the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine (FMU). The largest number of people were employed in the ferrous sector where ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih takes a lead with 19.7 thousand employees.
