The EU is ready to allocate €25.5 million for the needs of Ukraine’s energy system

The EU and other international partners will provide €25.5 million for Ukraine’s needs in the restoration of energy facilities. The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, told about this, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

The funds are accumulated in the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine (Energy Community).

In addition, Kadri Simson, together with the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko and the energy community, is launching an information campaign that will promote the involvement of the private sector in the supply of equipment needed by Ukraine. According to her, about 20 countries have already provided equipment worth millions of euros.

The main thing, as the European energy commissioner noted, is to find the necessary equipment for urgent needs. Therefore, the EU also calls on companies to set priorities for Ukraine in supplies.

In addition, the EU intends to allocate €13 million to restore the laboratories damaged by the Russians at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and another €3.5 million through the IAEA to support Ukraine.

Currently, the task is to help Ukraine get through the winter. After the war, Europe will help rebuild the country’s energy, which will be based on a greater share of renewable sources.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrenergo can receive not only credit, but also grant funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the repair of power grids damaged by Russian shelling, said Yuriy Boyko, adviser to the prime minister and member of the company’s supervisory board.

Currently, Ukrenergo and the EBRD are currently working on a new project, within the framework of which the company should receive a loan for €300 million. The purpose of a significant part of the funds is to restore the infrastructure destroyed as a result of Russian shelling. At the same time, the possibility of providing a certain amount in the form of a grant is being considered.
