The EU has allocated grants to finance transport infrastructure under the CEF

Last week, the European Commission (EC) signed grant agreements to finance EU transport infrastructure in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova. This was announced in a statement by the institution.

The funding, announced in July 2025, comes from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) fund, which supports cross-border projects and the work of the “Solidarity Routes” between the EU and Ukraine.

In particular, €73.5 million will be allocated to the creation of a European gauge railway line connecting Poland with Lviv in Ukraine.

Four projects in Poland will receive EU funding of almost €452 million. It is earmarked for key initiatives such as the Rail Baltica section (€294 million), the Mykolów–Czech border line (€18.4 million), the deployment of the ETCS system on the TEN-T core network in seven provinces (€94.9 million), and the extension of the fairway to the ports of Świnoujście, Szczecin, and Police (€44.3 million).

In Slovakia, four projects are being financed for a total of €135 million to support cross-border connections between eastern Slovakia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.

€45 million has been allocated to a railway corridor project in Romania that will connect the south (the port of Constanta and Bucharest) with Ukraine and Moldova in the north. Another €33 million has been earmarked for a joint cross-border initiative between Romania and Moldova to modernize and electrify the cross-border railway section between Iasi and Ungheni.

In July, it was reported that the European Commission had selectedhttps://gmk.center/ua/news/ies-u-ramkah-programi-cef-profinansuie-94-transportni-proiekti/ 94 transport projects to receive nearly €2.8 billion in EU grants under the CEF.
