The Cabinet of Ministers extends an emergency in Ukraine until July

The Cabinet of Ministers extended the emergency and lockdown in Ukraine until 30 June 2021, according to a statement made by Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, at a government meeting on 21 April.

“The government extends the emergency and, consequently, the lockdown until 30 June,” said the Head of the Cabinet.

According to the Prime Minister, the emergency rather concerns government agencies and their response to the pandemic.

At the same time, he said, the above decision is supposed to remind Ukrainians that they should still be cautious, especially during the May holidays and Easter.

The government encourages people to stay home these days. Mass gatherings of people on Easter holidays may prompt a new surge in incidence rate.

The situation with COVID-19 in Ukraine is stabilizing, the Prime Minister added. The coronavirus is still spreading and the time for mass celebrations has not come yet.

As GMK Center reported earlier, last time the government imposed flexible lockdown in Ukraine on 24 February. It was supposed to last until 30 April 2021.

For the first time, the Cabinet announced an emergency on 25 March 2020. Prior to that, the emergency had been announced since mid-March in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi, Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Donetsk, Ternopil, and Cherkasy oblasts, as well as in the cities of Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia.
