Tenaris
Tenaris is restarting its heat treatment and finishing lines at its production site in Coppell, Pennsylvania, strengthening its ability to supply American steel pipes to the US energy sector. This was announced in a press release from the company.
The restart was made possible by a $2.1 million investment aimed at restoring operations and strengthening the company’s industrial presence in the country. Tenaris plans to hire more than 80 employees to support the lines.
As noted by Tenaris US President Guillermo Moreno, the restoration of the lines in Koppel underscores the reliability of the company’s domestic production capabilities for customers across the country. According to him, this site remains a key element of Tenaris’ US operations and enables the supply of high-quality steel products for US energy and industrial needs.
Tenaris operates an integrated steel pipe production system in Pennsylvania and Ohio. At Koppel, steel billets are melted in an electric arc furnace for further production of seamless pipes. The billets are then sent to Ambridge, Pennsylvania, where they are rolled into seamless OCTG pipes according to customer requirements. The pipes are then returned to Koppel for hardening and tempering, as well as finishing, testing, and inspection. In the final stage, at the Brookfield, Ohio, facility, the pipes are cut and undergo final inspection before being shipped to customers in the US oil and gas sector.
The restoration of the lines at Koppel is part of Tenaris’ broader investment program in the US. In total, the company has invested over $150 million in the adjacent steel mill, including an $85 million gas cleaning system upgrade completed several months ago to improve environmental sustainability. In addition, its subsidiary Steel Recycling Services acquired the Beaver Falls scrap processing facility, which will optimize the production chain. Tenaris has a total of more than 3,600 employees in the US and continues to recruit staff at its Pennsylvania facilities.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Tenaris reduced its pipe sales by 5% in 2024 compared to 2023, from 4.14 million tons to 3.93 million tons. During the year, shipments of seamless pipes to customers amounted to 3.08 million tons, down 4% year-on-year, and welded pipes – 852,000 tons (-11% year-on-year).
