The Dutch division of global steel company Tata Steel has started producing steel with 30% recycled content under the Zeremis Recycled brand. This is stated in the company’s press release.
Zeremis Recycled products contribute to the cyclical use of steel and reduce CO2 emissions. In this way, the company is responding to the growing demand, especially in the automotive, packaging and construction industries, for modern steel with a high recycled content.
«We believe that together with our customers we can make significant steps towards sustainable production. We are proud to introduce Zeremis Recycled to those who want to promote circularity and preserve the value of steel when reused,» said Tom Eussen, member of the Executive Board of Tata Steel Netherlands and Managing Director of Tata Steel IJmuiden.
Tata Steel Netherlands plans to transform into a green steel company in the coming years. The Green Steel plan aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and increase production cycles through greater use of scrap. The company aims to produce high-quality products that meet customer expectations while becoming fully carbon neutral by 2045.
The launch of Zeremis Recycled is part of Tata Steel’s sustainability strategy and aims to enable customers to directly reduce their carbon footprint. The company intends to further expand its range of products with a high content of recycled materials.
The Dutch parliament recently supported the provision of about €3 billion in green subsidies to Tata Steel Ijmuiden. The government funds are to be used to decarbonize the plant and increase the sustainability of the country’s steel industry.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Tata Steel Netherlands increased steel production by 24% quarter-on-quarter to 1.48 million tons in January-March 2024. Compared to the same period in 2023, the figure decreased by 3%. Shipments of products during this period increased by 10% q/q but decreased by 3% y/y – to 1.43 million tons.
