Tata Steel Nederland
Tata Steel Nederland (TSN) has commissioned a new production line for packaging steel intended for the food industry. A key feature of the project is the use of innovative TCCT (Trivalent Chromium Coating Technology), which significantly reduces the environmental impact of production and already meets future European regulatory requirements, particularly in the use of chemicals (REACH). This is stated in the company’s press release.
TSN is the exclusive developer and patent holder of TCCT technology. The company not only implements it in its own production, but also offers it to other European steel manufacturers, effectively setting a new standard for the packaging steel market in Europe.
An important advantage of the new line is that the entire production process is concentrated in one location, which simplifies logistics and shortens the supply chain. Combined with Protact’s solution – polymer-coated packaging steel – TCCT ensures compliance with the most stringent food safety standards. At the same time, customers no longer need to apply additional coatings to the material, which reduces costs, cuts down on the use of chemicals, and simplifies production processes.
According to Arne Hoogerhorst, head of the Packaging division at Tata Steel Nederland, the new technology makes production safer for employees, minimizes environmental risks, and helps customers transition to more efficient and sustainable solutions.
It should be recalled that Tata Steel has signed a non-binding letter of intent (JLoI) with the Dutch government to switch to low-carbon steel production at its Eemhaven plant. The company plans to reduce emissions at its plant in the country as part of a project that could cost €4-6.5 billion, with the state contributing €2 billion.
