Tata Steel increased steel production in India by 7% y/y in July-September

Steel company Tata Steel produced 5.67 million tons of steel at its domestic plants in India in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025/2026 (July-September 2025), according to a company statement.

These volumes are 7% higher year-on-year and 8% higher than in the previous quarter. The results were supported by the normalization of operations after the replacement of the lining of blast furnace G in Jamshedpur during the second quarter.

Domestic shipments in July-September increased by 7% y/y and 20% q/q – to 5.56 million tons, driven by improved production and stable demand in various segments, despite seasonal factors related to monsoons.

In the first half of the current fiscal year (April-September), steel production in India increased by 3% year-on-year – to 10.9 million tonnes. Shipments during this period also increased by 3% y/y – to 10.31 million tonnes.

Tata Steel Netherlands’ steel production in July-September amounted to 1.67 million tonnes, and shipments for the period amounted to 1.54 million tonnes (they were slightly higher both on a quarterly and annual basis).

Tata Steel UK serves its customers by further processing purchased raw materials. Shipments in July-September amounted to 0.56 million tons. During the quarter, construction of an electric arc furnace began in Port Talbot.

It should be recalled that Tata Steel increased its steel production in India by 4.3% y/y – to 21.7 million tons in the 2024/2025 financial year (ended March 31, 2025). This was the highest figure in the company’s history.
