Taiwan launches anti-dumping investigation into rolled steel from China

Taiwan has launched an anti-dumping investigation into certain steel products from China, Bloomberg reports.

Officials will consider whether imports of certain types of hot rolled and flat products from China are harming the local industry, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

In the past, Taiwan has imposed anti-dumping tariffs on goods from China, including cement and chemical products and steel products. The latest investigation is the first such measure taken by Taipei against China since 2023.

According to US trade data, China shipped 2.57 million tons of steel products to Taiwan last year.

According to Epoch Times, the proceedings were initiated at the request of China Steel and Dragon Steel.

South Korea plans to launch an official investigation into allegations of dumped imports of hot-rolled carbon and alloy steel (HRC) coils from Japan and China. The complaint was filed in December 2024 by Hyundai Steel, the country’s second-largest steel producer. The company claimed that its business had suffered material damage due to unfair trade practices in the export of HRC from these countries.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the Mexican Ministry of Economy officially initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of hot-rolled steel from China and Vietnam. The investigation was initiated at the request of Ternium Mexico, one of the leading local steel producers.
