Sukha Balka has commissioned a new unit with reserves of 179,500 metric tons of ore

On May 11, 2026, a new production unit (40-46) was commissioned at the Yuvileina Mine, part of the Sukha Balka mining complex. Its reserves amount to 179,500 tons of ore with an average iron content of 60.42%. This was reported in the DCH Steel corporate newsletter.

The new production unit is located on the first sub-level of the -1,420 m horizon of the “Main” seam. Preparations for commissioning the unit have been underway since October of last year. During this period, the mine carried out a range of preparatory and cutting operations necessary to begin production.

The cutting work was carried out by specialists from Section No. 9. Miners from Section No. 18 will operate the production unit.

Work on the block will be organized using the traditional method with a scraper winch. This approach will ensure stable extraction of reserves within the planned production schedule.

“The quality indicators of the raw material in this deposit are quite high. The block’s reserves amount to 179,500 tons of ore with an average iron content in the deposit of 60.42%,” noted Mykola Puntus, chief engineer of the Yuvileina Mine.

According to experts’ calculations, the existing reserves of the new block will be sufficient for approximately six months of stable operation. The commissioning of blocks 40–46 is expected to support the production program of the Yuvileina Mine and ensure continued utilization of the mining sections.

As a reminder, DCH Steel Group companies—the Sukha Balka mine and the Dniprovsky Metallurgical Plant (DMP) — paid UAH 142 million in taxes and fees to budgets at all levels in the first quarter. Tax revenues to the consolidated budget from Sukha Balka in January–March amounted to UAH 98.8 million.
