In January-June 2025, Spanish steel enterprises increased steel production by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2024, to 6.58 million tons. Thus, the country ranks 15th in the WorldSteel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).
In June, Spanish steelmakers produced 1.11 million tons of steel, which is 4.1% more than in June last year and 4.2% less than in the previous month. Average monthly steel production in January-June amounted to 1.096 million tons, compared to 1.039 million tons a year earlier.
Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 8.2% y/y in June 2025 – to 10.4 million tons, and by 3.3% y/y in January-June – to 65.4 million tons.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Spain increased steel production by 3.3% in 2024 compared to 2023, to 11.82 million tons. In December, Spanish metallurgists produced 870,000 tons of steel (-14.3% month-on-month; +16% year-on-year). The average monthly steel production in 2024 was 985,200 tons, compared to 954,300 tons in 2023 and 964,400 tons in 2022.
