In September 2025, Spanish steelmakers increased steel production by 10.8% compared to the previous month to 886 thousand tons. The figure fell by 10.5% compared to September 2024. Thus, the country is ranked 15th in the global ranking of steel-producing countries (70) by the WorldSteel Association.
In January-September, Spanish steelmakers increased steel production by 2.2% year-on-year to 9.16 million tons. The growth rate dropped to its lowest level since the beginning of the year. This was due to weak performance in the third quarter. Thus, in the first and second quarters, steel production in Spain consistently exceeded 1-1.1 million tons per month, while in the third quarter these volumes were at the level of 800-900 thousand tons, which resulted in a quarterly total of 2.59 million tons (-23.7% q/q; -3.5% y/y).
The average monthly steel production in January-September amounted to 1.02 million tons compared to 990.9 thousand tons a year earlier.

Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 4.5% y-o-y in September 2025 – to 10.1 million tons, and by 3.7% y-o-y in January-September – to 94.6 million tons.
As reported by GMK Center, Spain increased steel production by 3.3% year-on-year – to 11.82 million tons in 2024. In December, Spanish metallurgists produced 870,000 tons of steel (-14.3% month-on-month; +16% year-on-year). The average monthly steel output in 2024 was 985.2 thousand tons, compared to 954.3 thousand tons in 2023 and 964.4 thousand tons in 2022.
There are 14 operating metallurgical enterprises in Spain: Megasa Siderúrgica Narón (capacity of 700,000 tons of steel per year), ArcelorMittal Asturias (Gijón) (1.2 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Asturias (Aviles) (4.2 million tons/year), Celsa Global Steel Wire Santander (750 thousand tons/year), Sidenor Aceros Especiales Basuri (740 thousand tons/year), ArcelorMittal Sestao (2 million tons/year), Celsa Nervacero (1 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Olaberria-Bergara (1.45 million tons/year), Megasider Zaragoza (500,000 tons/year), Celsa Barcelona Castellbisbal (2.5 million tons/year), Grupo Gallardo Corrugados Getafe (600,000 tons/year), Grupo Gallardo Siderurgica Balboa Jerez de los Caballeros (1.3 million tons/year), Riva Siderurgica Sevillana (1.3 million tons/year), Acerinox Europa Los Barrios (1.2 million tons/year).
